Fit for a king

After 3 days of hanging around the house with Mark not feeling well, we finally ventured outside the four walls of our little compound and walked to Kabaka's Palace, a home belonging to the King of Buganda (though he only stays at this location one or two days a year).  We weren't actually allowed inside the building - only to get a tour of the grounds. It was a nice little outing and we learned some Ugandan history along the way.

One of several old ruined cars on the grounds - this one with a goat tied to it.
We've seen these birds - marabou storks - a few other places, but there were scads of them on the palace grounds. Up close they are just atrocious to look at with their long pink gullets. The one on the right is about to eat a grasshopper (more on those in another post).  Word on the street is that these birds' poop is so acidic that if one dropped some on your head, your hair wouldn't grow back for six months, and if it gets on your car, the paint is ruined.

Thumbs up to cooling off under the spigot after a two-mile walk.
