a few of the 10,000 things

There's a line from an old, old song that has been stuck in my head this morning that says "blessings all mine and ten thousand beside".  Sometimes it stinks to have a song stuck in your head, but this one feels appropriate today.

As we wandered downstairs for breakfast after a good night's sleep, there was inspirational music playing on the boom box - it was immediately familiar and peaceful - as if we were at either of our parents' houses for breakfast.  We ate scrambled eggs, toast, yogurt, tea and juice as we looked out over the courtyard in the hazy morning light and watched people from the neighborhood walking toward church.  It's like we're in a Norman Rockwell painting of sorts.

Speaking of family, let me introduce you briefly to our temporary family here.  First there are Sarah and Susan, the women who run this guesthouse.  Both soft-spoken, helpful and kind, but seem to have everything well within their control, down to the smallest detail.

We met Alicia and her mom Belinda from the southern US and Alicia's boy G____, a bruiser of a baby who hasn't met a scale he couldn't break (though when he first arrived at the orphanage he was far from wellness or health).  They've been here since mid-September and are hopefully a week or two from heading back to the US.  Quite lovely and helpful.  They told us of a neighbor, a Baptist missionary and his family who have a big yard with a playground and a Ugandan son of 4 years who loves having kids over to play with.

Scott and Adria hail from the mountainous middle of the US and their son A____ who is about 2yrs old. A_____ is full of life and personality.  Don't know much of them yet as they were headed out the door for church but I think we'll know them well in the coming days and weeks.

So far so good.  All really great people who are experiencing the things we are about to experience.

I had better sign off now.  Molly and I are going to cram as many Luganda words and phrases into our brains as we can.  We have two hours.  :)
