We're here!

Ah, Africa.  Though I've only been here once before, some things apparently don't change.  As we deplaned here in Kampala, we could detect the faint smell of smoke in the night air.  The same smell as in Addis Ababa, the same in Kigali too.  It's a beautiful smell, really.

Stella kindly met us at the airport and Hamza expertly drove us into the city and high up on a hill overlooking downtown Kampala to a beautiful gated house which we'll call home for the next several weeks.  Right now we're sitting in our mosquito netted bed/palace which takes up virtually the entire room.  Where our clothes/luggage will go is a question for the morning light. Tomorrow about 1-2 p.m. (5-6 a.m. for you Central timers back home) the little one and his caretaker will arrive and this thing will be happening. Really happening. I wonder what it'll be like to have a little strange boy in our bed with us.  I guess we'll know soon enough!

It's bed time here so we wish you all a good and peaceful night.
