Thanksgiving, Illustrated

Nothing says "Thanksgiving" like a plate of white ants (with wings), freshly baked in the sun. The fact that I, Molly, tried some without thinking twice about it may be a sign that I've been here too long.  The verdict: not much taste, but not too bad.
To make a pumpkin pie, first you start by roasting a pumpkin (green on the outside) and butternut squash ...
then you add some eggs with nearly white yolks ...
then you make a crust, guessing at how much flour, butter, sugar and salt you're using ...
... cook at an unknown temperature for an undetermined amount of time using the lid of a pot for a pie pan, and Voila!

Despite being very sick, Mark roused himself enough to stuff some chickens, a la Barefoot Contessa.

Susan made a floral arrangement for the table.

Robert proudly built a structure for his motorcars and animals.

Then he tried to steal some chicken before dinner.

We ate with Susan, Sarah and Julius, making everyone go around the table and tell what they are thankful for.  (Julius got a pass, since we don't think he speaks any English.)  On the menu for the evening: roasted chicken, sauteed green beans, cauliflower gratin, rolls, juice, pumpkin pie and vanilla ice cream.
We took a nap in bed the next afternoon.

Just kidding! I was awake the whole time.

We watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, the day after.

  1. I am [very] impressed. (Mainly by the fact that you ate ants.) And a little freaked out by the white eggs. And curious... how was the pie?

  2. The table looked very festive, and Molly did great on the pie! What are you going to do with all the leftover chicken?!! Is there refrigeration?! Love, MomN.
