What is it about sleep

This will be a short update since...

I think the nap thing failed us yesterday.  I thought R's 1 1/2 hour nap was gonna be the golden ticket.  Maybe he slept too long?  I mean, going to bed was super rough last night (meaning no bath, kicking and screaming and wailing himself to sleep) followed by a restless sleep and wide awake at 5:15am, raring to go.  Really? What heinous crime did we commit to deserve this?

(I know, I know...  all you parents are laughing and shaking your heads.)

So it is the early afternoon - Molly and R______ are both taking naps and I am sitting in the couch answering a few email and typing this.  I'm just a bit bleary eyed right now.

This morning we again hit the road and headed to Heritage International School to see our friend and neighbor Randall Goodgame perform for the children there.  Randall and his family live about 4 blocks away from us in Crieve Hall so it is pretty surreal to be in another hemisphere and watching him lead hundreds of children singing Slugs & Bugs songs.  To be honest, R______ wasn't very interested in the concert though he did pay rapt attention to my personal favorite "Bears", which of course made my heart swell a bit.  After that, we went to an entirely frustrating grocery store, where everything was laid out in the worst possible way and it was impossible to find anything, or to keep track of R_____ who had his own mini cart and was pulling crap off the shelves willy-nilly then disappearing.  Now I know why they invented those ridiculous kid-leash things.   I should've also mentioned that we swung by the US Embassy on the way to the school to pick up a form we need to fill out, but that particular office was arbitrarily closed today.  Again, frustrating.

Molly napped for 1 hour, R_____ for 2 and was in a pretty good mood when he woke up.  Molly also made dinner for everyone here tonight (guests and staff) by whipping up our favorite lentil & prosciutto soup while the boy and I walked down to the market to pick up some fresh, hot chapatti.  Have I told you about the chapatti here?  It's sort of like Indian naan only better - cooked on a wood fired, cast iron skillet out in the open.  When I get home, you better believe that I'll be welding one up in the shop.  Anyway, the soup was great and every one really liked it.  After dinner, we braced ourselves and decided to try putting R_____ down a little earlier this evening since it's been a long day for us.

Um, so he basically put himself to bed tonight.  Smiling the whole time.  Huh?

  1. Glad it worked out better tonight. I gave up on naps for Z around age 3, since she always wanted to stay up (too) late and wake up (too) early for my taste. :)
